THIRTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
READINGS
Prv 31:10-13,19-20,30-31
1 Thes 5:1-6
Mt 25:14-30
In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus tells of a parable about the gifts given to each of us and how to use them. Jesus uses the parable of the man and his 3 servants of whom he gave talents to. Each servant received different about of talents, the first received five talents, while the second received three talents and the last servant received one talent. The first two servants double the amount of talents they were given while the last servant buried his talent and did not make any use of it. When the master came home, the servants who had doubled their talents were given more, while the servant that did not do anything with his talent was thrown outside into the darkness.

Jesus used this parable as an example for all of us to use the talents given to us by the Lord wisely. Jesus lets us know that it doesn’t matter how many talents we receive; what is important is that we use our gifts and talents for the glory of GOD. When we use our gifts in the service of others and for the glory of God, we show a profit and He will bless us with more. The servant who buried his talent, did not make use of his talent and therefore did not help anyone nor did he glorified God’s gift. His talent was taken away and he was sent out into the darkness. We too must be careful not become like this servant. We must always remember the blessings and gifts that come from God and we must use these gifts to do the will of God and to help those around us.
